“Ciao Andy, true Interista”: A sad evening in Milan

After the death of football world champion Andreas Brehme, Inter wants to pay a final tribute to its former champion player in the Champions League.

The Italian Serie A club announced that the team will wear black armbands for the Champions League match against Atlético Madrid on Tuesday evening (21 p.m.). In addition, at Inter's request, there will be a minute's silence in memory of Brehme before the match, the European Football Union UEFA announced. In addition to the Inter players, the referees will also wear black armbands at the match.

Brehme, who was born in Hamburg, played for Inter from 1988 to 1992. Together with his national team colleagues Lothar Matthäus and Jürgen Klinsmann, he won the Nerazzurri championship (1989) and the UEFA Cup (1991). His former club said goodbye to him with emotional words. "A part of us is leaving," it said on the club's website.

"The Inter of records, the Inter of the Germans. These are formulas that we always use, that we will continue to use to remember an incredible football season, that of Trapattoni, Zenga, Bergomi, Ferri, the Germans, the Scudetto, the UEFA Cup." On social media, the club wrote: "A magical player, a true Interista. Ciao Andy, forever a legend."
