The Netherlands remains on course for the European Championship

The Netherlands have stayed on course for the European Football Championship finals in Germany with their third win in four group matches. The "Oranje" beat Ireland 2-1 (1-1) on Sunday evening in Dublin after falling behind early on. Behind the confident French - the vice world champions have the maximum number of points after five matches - the Dutch defended second place ahead of Greece, who comfortably completed their task against Gibraltar with a 5-0 (2-0) home win.

The match started very badly for the Dutch: Virgil van Dijk conceded a penalty shortly after the start, which Adam Idah (5th) converted. The guests also equalized from the penalty spot. Cody Gakpo (19th) did not miss the chance after Denzel Dumphries was brought down by the Irish goalkeeper. The offensive efforts of Ronald Koeman's stronger team were finally rewarded. Wout Weghorst (56th), who came on after the break, converted after Dumphries' preparatory work.

Poland, on the other hand, now has to worry about their start to the European Championship. Robert Lewandowski and Co. lost 0:2 (0:1) in Albania and suffered their third defeat in their fifth qualifying appearance. Jasir Asani (37th) and Mirlind Daku (62nd) scored for the Albanians, who are leading in Group E. Behind them, ahead of Poland, who are only in fourth place, are the Czech Republic and Moldova. The south-eastern Europeans, who had drawn a 1:1 draw with the ÖFB team in Linz in a friendly on Thursday, won 1:0 (0:0) in the Faroe Islands.

The tussle in qualifying group H for the two fixed places at the European Championships remains a thrilling four-way battle. In the top match of the pool, Denmark beat Finland 1-0 (0-0) in Helsinki. Pierre Emil Höjbjerg secured three points for the visitors with a late goal (86th minute). Kazakhstan beat Northern Ireland 1-0 (1-0) at home, while Slovenia took the obligatory win with a 4-0 (2-0) win at San Marino and thus took the lead. The Slovenians are currently leading with 13 points from six games thanks to the more goals scored, ahead of the Danes, who have the same number of points. Finland and Kazakhstan are each one point behind.

Montenegro defeats Bulgaria In Group G, Montenegro celebrated an important 2-1 (1-0) home victory against Bulgaria despite being outnumbered. Stefan Savic (45th+1) put the hosts in the lead in Podgorica. In the second half, Igor Vujacic was sent off with a second yellow card (59th minute), then Bulgarian Kiril Despodov missed a penalty (61st minute). Finally, Preslaw Borukov equalized (79th minute), but the Montenegrins had the last word. Stevan Jovetic scored the winning goal with a header deep into injury time (97th minute).

Thanks to this success, the Montenegrins remain on the heels of the Serbs, who are now in second place on the same number of points as leaders Hungary. The Serbs won 3-1 (3-1) in Lithuania. Serbia's record goalscorer Aleksandar Mitrovic scored a flawless hat-trick in the first half, and he now has 55 goals in the team jersey.
