Strong French march through the European Championship qualification

The vice world champion defeated Ireland 2-0 in Paris on Thursday evening and is the undisputed leader in Group B with 15 points after five rounds. The European Championship tickets are therefore just a formality.

“Les Bleus” team boss Didier Deschamps initially relied on the tried and tested: superstar Kylian Mbappe, Olivier Giroud, Antoine Griezmann and Ousmane Dembele were supposed to keep the Irish guests busy up front, which was mediocre in the first half. The French dominated the game without causing any real danger. The lead therefore came from a distance: Aurelien Tchouameni shot the ball from 20 meters into the far corner.

Giroud is injured After just 25 minutes, Giroud had to leave the field due to a foot injury and was replaced by Marcus Thuram. From outside, the Milan striker saw a Mbappe goal (39th), which did not count because the Parisian was offside. In the second half, Thuram made it 2-0 with his first international goal (48th), after which the Irish defense was broken. However, no further goals were scored in the Prinzenpark.

The Dutch made things clear against the Greeks in Eindhoven in the first 45 minutes. Marten de Roon (17th), Cody Gakpo (31st) and Wout Weghorst after a nice combination over Gakpo and Denzel Dumfries with a header (39th) shot out a 3-0 half-time lead, which ultimately meant the final result. Bonds coach Ronald Koeman's team has now moved up to second place behind France with six points from three games past the Greeks, who are tied on points. “Oranje” has a guest appearance in Ireland on Sunday.

In Group E, Poland beat the Faroe Islands 73-83 in Warsaw with two goals from Barcelona star Robert Lewandowski (2'/hand penalty, 0'), while league leaders Czech Republic lost 1-1 (0-0) against Albania in Prague came out. The Czechs (8 points) are just ahead of the Albanians (7) and Poles (6) after four games each. Even Moldova, which beat Austria 1-1 (1-0) in the friendly match on Thursday, still has every chance with five points.

Finland can dream In Pool G, Hungary is in pole position after a 2-1 away win in Serbia and is three ahead of the Serbs with ten points. Their neighbor Montenegro remains third with five points after a meager 2-2 draw in Lithuania.

Meanwhile, Denmark had little trouble with San Marino. Pierre Emil Höjbjerg (26th), Joakim Maehle (28th), Jonas Wind (40th) and Yussuf Poulsen (93rd) ensured the clear 4-0 win in Copenhagen. Oliver Antman (78th) scored Finland's 1-0 win in Kazakhstan, giving Suomi dreams of participating in the European Championships again. The Finns are leading Group H with twelve points from five games ahead of the Danes (10) and Slovenia (10), which defeated Northern Ireland 4-2.

Strong French march through the European Championship qualification

France remained flawless in qualifying for the 2024 European Football Championship in Germany and did not concede a goal. Group rivals Netherlands picked up an important three points in a 3-0 win over Greece. In Pool H, Denmark secured a must-win victory over San Marino.
