“Unworthy of a captain”: Heavy criticism of Mbappé

According to former international player Emmanuel Petit, France's unconvincing performances at this European Football Championship are mainly due to the personal crisis of top star Kylian Mbappé.

The 1998 world champion and 2000 European champion also criticised Mbappé for his performance at the European Championships so far. "At the moment he is unworthy of a captain, he takes too little responsibility on the pitch," said Petit in an interview with the Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland (RND) before the semi-final against Spain in the evening (21.00 p.m.).

The 53-year-old former midfielder referred to the physical condition of the French superstar. "He has not been at his best since the start of this European Championship. He is not physically fit and his broken nose is also hindering him," said Petit. "He is anything but effective in finishing. And the opponents know how to stop him."
Mbappé has only scored one goal from a penalty at the current European Championship.

Strangely enough, the Équipe Tricolore has not yet managed to score a single goal from the game despite reaching the semi-finals. This has to do with "the cautious style of play of national coach Didier Deschamps," explained Petit, who nevertheless finds his former teammate's approach legitimate: "In the end, only the winners will be remembered - that's all that counts. The way in which successes came about is of no interest to anyone anymore."

Meanwhile, Petit also warned: “France under Deschamps will only be successful if these players show their individual class, which is too rarely the case at the moment.”
