Italian Cup: Eppan and Kaltern are in the semi-finals

The cup writes its own rules - a statement that is regularly used, especially in football. Not so in this year's Italian Cup. After two elimination rounds, the four teams that finished the IHL regular season in places 1 to 4 will be in the semifinals. In addition to Pergine and Varese, Kaltern and Eppan are also still fighting for the cup.

It all started with Eppan against Alleghe. The Pirates clearly won the first leg 5-0. A win or a draw in the return match was enough for the Überetscher team to securely reach the semi-finals. However, it was a 1:3 defeat after regular time. Because both teams have now won one game each, the rules were as follows: The team that scores the first goal in extra time moves on to the next round. Finally, it was Daniel Erlacher who saved Eppan in the 11th minute and shot into the semi-finals.

Kaltern must tremble for a long time

The starting point was different for SV Kaltern. The Hechte had to be content with a draw in the first leg against Valdifiemme and were doomed to win in the second leg - which they were to achieve with a 6:4 triumph. However, the hosts struggled for a long time in their home ice arena. The lead and the deficit alternated regularly until the 46th minute. 14 minutes before the end, Moritz Selva put the Überetscher in front 4:3 and the South Tyroleans never let them go. In the end, SV Kaltern prevailed 6:4 and we are in the final 4 together with Eppan.

The two semi-final games will take place this Saturday. The two winners will meet in the grand final just 24 hours later. So the mode also changes. While the round of XNUMX and quarter-finals were played in a two-leg format, one match will now decide whether you win or lose.
