Pergine pushes Varese from the IHL throne

The Italian Hockey League (IHL) has had a new champion since Thursday evening: Pergine narrowly won the sixth game of the best-of-seven series, thereby knocking Varese off his throne.

There were six games in the IHL final, and the home team prevailed five times. So Pergine's only away win at the start of the series turned out to be decisive. Because on Thursday the Lynxes made everything clear in front of their own fans, winning 4-3 and thus clinching the first second division title in the club's history.

The Mastini started the game better, taking a 1-0 lead with Erik Naslund. Two goals within a minute and a half by Mattia Mocellin and William Lemay steered the game in the desired direction for the Trentino team. Jozef Foltin and Joshua Berger increased the score even further in the final third.

It will be exciting

Varese didn't give up, scored with Pietro Borghi and Naslund within 28 seconds and believed in his chance until the end. Pergine goalie Rudy Rigoni subsequently held on to the victory and the championship title. SV Kaltern will look back on Pergine with some sadness, as the Hechte only had to admit defeat against Pergine after a penalty shootout in the all-important fifth game of the semi-finals.
