The Foxes take the bulls by the horns

Salzburg traveled to the Talferstadt with four league wins under their belt, but had to digest the bitter exit in the CHL on Tuesday. Bolzano wanted to get back to winning ways after two defeats in a row. Accordingly, both teams got down to business from the first puck drop in front of 2480 spectators (club statement, editor's note).

The first good chance arose for Ziga Pance after 21 seconds, but Salzburg's goalie was on the post. On the other side, Komarek tried it, but Hübl had something against it. Then the cold shower: After 1.10:XNUMX minutes, Komarek finished on the blue line and netted for the guests.

But Bolzano continues to move forward. In the third minute, Egger tried from a distance, but Niko Hovinen had everything under control. 120 seconds later, Hübl excelled at a chance for Trattnig. On the other side, Lee was denied a good opportunity by Hovinen (5'). After 7.09:XNUMX minutes, HCB Südtirol finally celebrated, because after a commotion, De Simone pushed the opponent and the puck over the line. At this point the home side were playing with one more man, as Hughes was sitting in the cooler.

Hovinen was injured when Bozen scored, and from then on he was replaced by Bernd Brückler in the Bulls' box. Both teams then had a few opportunities, but no goals were scored. Until the 18th minute: Schofield came around Brückler's goal and served the completely free-standing Keller in the slot, who had no trouble pushing the puck over the line. 2:1 for the white-reds after 17.20 minutes. In the penultimate minute of the starting third, Raffl finally had the equalizer on his stick, but did not hit the empty goal. With the narrow lead we went into the dressing rooms.

After the first break, Phil De Simone had the 23-3 on his stick in the 1rd minute, but Brückler was able to fend off the puck with his leg pads. Hübl was able to excel with a shot from Mühlstein's blue line (25th), before Gander and Zisser combined wonderfully, but Zisser's shot was defused by Brückler (26th). Salzburg's goalkeeper then fished Nesbitt's shot from close range out of the top corner with his catching hand. Both teams invested a lot in the early stages of the middle third, but nothing significant came of it.

After 27.32 minutes, Keller had to go into the cooler. But the Foxes survived this outnumbered situation unscathed. On the contrary: Toni Bernard almost made it 3-1 after a counterattack. At the end of the second third, Marco Insam had to go to the penalty box. When the majority situation expired, the guests took the net. Raffl deflected a shot from Trattnig unstoppable for Hübl (38.20). But Bozen almost took the lead again if Insam hadn't got stuck to Brückler after a counterattack.

The final third began with the guests in a situation of superiority (Galvins was in the cooler), but the Foxes survived unscathed. Salzburg shot from all positions, but could not overcome Hübl. When Bozen advanced into Mozartstadt's attacking third, things became really dangerous. The home team hit the crossbar in the 48th minute. A little later, the white and reds celebrated when Cullen made it 3-2 against his former club. After nice preparatory work by Nesbitt, Bozen's number 11 was able to put the puck over Brückler and into the net.

Eight minutes before the end, Hübl defused a Raffl shot in the follow-up. The Foxes then cleverly defended their narrow lead. And if the defense of Raffl & Co. was overcome, then Jaroslav Hübl still stood like a rock. In the final minute, Salzburg also took goalie Brückler off the ice, but the Mozartstadt team's risk was not rewarded. On the contrary: Cullen scored two seconds before the end to make it 4-2 into the guests' empty goal.

The Foxes thus managed to take revenge for the defeat in the opening game of the season. The white-reds picked up two important points in the fight for a direct playoff spot.
