Tommaso Mazza has to leave HC Meran after only a few weeks.

A Merano striker has to pack his bags.

With two wins out of three games, HC Meran has had a successful start to the new Alps Hockey League season. Nevertheless, the Eagles are now replacing one of their forwards.

Thomas Mazza will leave HC Meran after only three appearances. The 21-year-old from Lombardy only arrived in South Tyrol from North American junior hockey this summer, but failed to make an impact. His tryout contract was not renewed.

Mazza's place is taken by the two-years-younger Luca Cortese The forward from Asiago played for three teams last season: the U19 team of his hometown club, Asiago's AlpsHL team, and finally, for a significant portion of the season, Feltre in the IHL (22 games, 11 goals). He spent the last few months with the U20 squad of the German third-division team ESV Kaufbeuren.

Cortese and HC Meran will be playing at the Red Bull Juniors in Salzburg this Thursday evening, where the spa town team will be hunting for their third win of the season.
