The president returns to the ice in Meran

HC Meran has announced the first player in the squad for the coming season. This is the current president Stefan Kobler.

The 30-year-old had recently expressed doubts about participation in the Alps Hockey League (AlpsHL) with the board. Ultimately, the Eagles decided for remaining in the transnational league. As the club announced on Easter Monday, Kobler is returning to the ice three seasons after retiring and will assume the role of player president in the future.

“Our president, Stefan Kobler, will lace up his skates again for the new season and make his comeback in the eagle jersey,” write the eagles. “In order to be closer to the team, it was decided that Kobler would also play actively again in addition to his role as president.”

A brave step

The left-handed shooter had already taken part in what was then the INL with Meran before he played for the Adler in the Italian Hockey League (IHL) until the end of his career. He announced his resignation in 2021. “The role of player president is widespread in North America and fits perfectly into our intended concept for the future of HCM,” emphasizes Kobler.
