The captain of the lower-lying region changes colors

The season in the Alps Hockey League is already over for the Unterland Cavaliers. Captain Tobias Brighenti has now accepted a new challenge within the league.

Hockey Club Gherdëina has strengthened its roster before the transfer deadline. Tobias Brighenti, captain of the Unterland Cavaliers, is joining the Furies.

After the Cavaliers failed to advance from Qualification Round A, HCG had the opportunity to sign Brighenti. The club management, led by sporting director Joel Brugnoli, seized this chance. The 29-year-old defenseman has already completed his first training sessions with the team and is available for the first pre-playoff game on Tuesday evening against EC Kitzbühel.

Plenty of experience for Val Gardena

“After Unterland’s departure, we were interested in signing him to strengthen our defense both quantitatively and qualitatively,” said Brugnoli. “This also provides us with security in case of injuries. Brighenti is an established AlpsHL player who brings a lot of stability and the necessary experience to our team.”

Brighenti received his training in Neumarkt and Auer. He played his first game for a first team in 2012 at the age of 16. In 2014, he was also part of the team that won the title in the then INL. The following season, the right-handed shooter made the move to Cortina, where he immediately demonstrated his skills and impressed with, among other things, 13 points.

The 1,85-meter-tall, 90-kilogram player stayed with the Ampezzaners for another season before moving to Neumarkt and then Klobenstein. With the Buam, he won the Italian championship in 2019, and that same season he also played 13 games for HC Bozen in the EBEL and the Champions Hockey League. He then joined HC Pustertal. Since 2020, he has played for the Cavaliers, whom he has captained for the past five seasons.

Brighenti has played a total of 321 AlpsHL games, racking up an impressive 138 points. He has won five trophies in his career – the last in 2022 when the Cavaliers won the IHL. He will wear number 34 for HCG.
