Good contacts: Meran brings in a Japanese man

HC Meran has pushed ahead with its transfer planning and signed a defensive player who the coach knows well.

The 24-year-old Japanese international Riku Ishida will strengthen the Adler defense. Ishida, who scored 32 points in 23 games in the Asia League last season and was voted Rookie of the Year, is moving abroad for the first time in his career. At the end of April, the 178 cm tall and 90 kg defender was on the ice with his national team at the World Cup in Bolzano and impressed with his aggressive style of play. Thanks to his strong performances, the right-wing shooter was voted one of the top three players on his national team.

With the national team, Ishida was also looked after by Meran coach Jarrod Skalde. “We are very pleased to welcome a player with such outstanding character and work ethic, who is also a fantastic teammate, to Meran. His ability to skate, defend and see the court will be valuable to our team's success this season. With his energy, enthusiasm and passion for the game, we warmly welcome Riku to our team and our great community,” said Skalde.
