Curtain up for the Dolomites Cup

The Dolomites Cup has always stood for high-class ice hockey, top clubs from all over Europe and an intoxicating atmosphere. This year will be no different: from Friday, August 12th to Sunday, August 14th, the fight for the highly coveted pre-season trophy will be held for the 16th time. With the Augsburger Panther, the Eisbären Berlin (both DEL), the EHC Biel-Bienne (NL) and Dynamo Pardubice (Extraliga Czech Republic), four top teams have found their way to the south of South Tyrol.

It starts on Friday evening at 20 p.m. with the first semi-final. There the Augsburg Panthers meet Dynamo Pardubice. The signs couldn't be more different: While the DEL club from Bavaria in Neumarkt is an old friend and has already won the Dolomites Cup five times (that's a record!), Pardubice will take part in the tournament in the Würtarena for the first time in history.

The six-time Czech champion is one of the largest traditional clubs in his country and has played continuously in the first division since 1950. Both teams bring a large number of fans to Neumarkt, which is why the atmosphere should be electric on the first evening. German champions against defending champions The second semi-final on Saturday evening at 20 p.m. will also be an ice hockey treat. The Eisbären Berlin, reigning German champions, ask the Swiss top club EHC Biel-Bienne to dance. Berlin is fighting against a taboo: in the Dolomites Cup, the Eisbären were eliminated in the semi-finals in two of their participations. Will that change in the third attempt? In any case, Biel-Bienne will be a hard nut to crack, because the team around ex-NHL crack Gaëtan Haas is starting as defending champions and clearly wants to defend the cup. By the way: These two teams had already met in the semi-finals last year, when Biel-Bienne won 2-0.
