Glen Hanlon is back: The big return to HC Bozen

Glen Hanlon said goodbye to HCB Südtirol Alperia in the summer. Now the Canadian is returning to South Tyrol. He should lead the reeling Foxes to their old stability and initiate a successful turnaround.

It wasn't that long ago that HCB boss Dieter Knoll had it SportNews-Interview dismissed as nonsense, according to which Glen Hanlon would be kept on the back burner. The Canadian worked quite successfully in Bolzano in the previous season, but did not want to come to South Tyrol in the summer for personal reasons (his wife works as a school director and would have had to stay alone in Canada). But now the tide has turned, also because Hanlon's wife will probably also be coming to Bolzano in a few weeks.

On Monday morning, HC Bozen announced that Hanlon would succeed Niklas Sundblad in a few days. The Swede was fired on Friday after a disastrous start to the season. “Coach Hanlon will move into his office in the Sparkasse Arena in the last days of September or the first days of October,” the Foxes said in a press release. Until then, Fabio Armani and Alexander Egger will remain in charge of the Foxes. Under the interim coach duo, Bolzano has on Sunday his first win of the season in Asiago celebrated.

“The mental aspect is very important in ice hockey.” Glen Hanlon

Hanlon himself also had his say in the press release: “I am very happy to be returning to Bolzano. I know the start of the season was difficult. At the same time, I also know what these guys can achieve,” said the Canadian. Hanlon will probably first prescribe a strict defensive concept for the Foxes: “Strikers can win games, but defense wins championships. I want a team that performs in a structured manner.”
