The Bolzano scare strikes: Salzburg on the verge of winning the title

In the ICE Hockey League, Red Bull Salzburg is only one win away from defending their title. In a crazy game 5 against Klagenfurt, the Bozen-Schreck became the match winner.

Salzburg's Nicolai Meyer is not a welcome guest in the Sparkasse Arena - after all, he hurt the HCB twice. A year ago he scored the gold goal in the all-important final game 7, and two weeks ago he sealed it with his Overtime goal in Salzburg meant the Talferstädter team were eliminated from the semi-finals. Now Meyer has once again become a cop hero.

In the final game 5 against Klagenfurt AC, Meyer scored the game-winning goal to make it 3-2 in the seventh minute of extra time. This means Salzburg takes a 7-3 lead in the best-of-2 series and can win the title for the third time in a row in front of their home crowd on Tuesday.

Equalizer four seconds before the end

The fact that the people of Mozartstadt have the momentum on their side was shown once again on Sunday evening. Klagenfurt led 2-1 in front of their home crowd until four seconds before the end (!) and practically already had the victory in their hands. But then Thomas Raffl came onto the scene.

The Salzburg captain maneuvered a hard cross pass from Ryan Murphy into the net in the last action of regular time, saving his team into overtime - and that's where the Nicolai Meyer show happened. This means the Red Bulls can win the title on Tuesday from 19.30 p.m.
