Between genius and madness: Catenacci-Aus at the HCP

Squad planning at HC Pustertal is progressing. Now the Wolves have announced that Dan Catenacci has to leave.

Jake Smith and Dan Catenacci will no longer play for HC Pustertal in the ICE Hockey League. The Wolves announced this on Saturday. It could be guessed that goalie Smith would have to go after the HCP with Olivier Roy and Andreas Bernard announced his goalkeeper duo a few days ago. It is now clear that striker Catenacci no longer has a future with the Black and Yellows.

This doesn't come as a surprise, as the former NHL attacker went through an epidemic season in the Green Valley. Catenacci was injured for a long time and also struggled with poor form. In the playoffs he initially showed his undisputed class, but then put himself offside with a completely unnecessary act of violence. In the second quarter-final against Fehervar, the 31-year-old cross-checked an opponent in the face far away from the game and was suspended for two games.

It was doubtful that Catenacci would have a future at HC Pustertal after this campaign and the mixed season. Now it is clear that his adventure with the wolves is over. Jake Smith performed well in goal for Wolves, especially in the playoffs, but the club management has decided to give Andreas Bernard and Olivier Roy confidence in the future.
