Courageous HCP stumbles in Vorarlberg
On Wednesday in Vorarlberg, HC Pustertal showed a good performance against the bottom team and, above all, a lot of fighting spirit, but struggled with a leaky defense.

HC Pustertal had ended the block of games before the international break with an impressive 6:3 against Red Bull Salzburg. The Wolves wanted to continue this trend around two weeks later and travelled to Vorarlberg to challenge the Pioneers. On Wednesday evening, however, the Wolves had to admit defeat 4:5 in a highly attractive game against a committed home team.
The Wolves' fans were particularly keeping an eye on their new goalkeeper Edward Pasquale during the duel against Vorarlberg. However, the 33-year-old had a tough time of it. After just eleven minutes, the puck was already in the Pustertal net twice, but the Canadian was let down by his teammates on both occasions.
Overall, this and more was the product of a Vorarlberg team that played well for 60 minutes and tried to put the Wolves under pressure with a lot of speed and commitment. However, the Puster team recovered from the initial shock, which led to an exciting, fast game developing, with many great chances on both sides. In the Puster team's jersey, Cedric Lacoix, Alex Petan and Tommy Purdeller in particular provided more pinpricks, but these initially failed to land.
Great fighting spirit of the wolves
In the last third, goals were scored almost every minute, with the Wolves trying everything to make up for a deficit. Vorarlberg was thus given one or two counterattack opportunities, which the Pioneers did not miss on Wednesday, giving Pasquale an unsuccessful debut (save rate of 76,2 percent). Despite this, the HCP never let up and showed great fighting spirit. However, the comeback was called off with the score at 4:5 against the Wolves. The highlights of the game
The early shock | Vorarlberg starts with a lot of speed and overruns the Wolves. Gilmour creatively uses a beautiful pass from Nardi between Pasquale's pads. |
Gilmour again | The Pioneers give the HCP a 2-0 lead with an absolute dream goal. Gilmour hits a puck fluttering in the air in front of the Wolves' goal into the net in the best baseball style. |
Petan strikes back | The Wolves fight back in the power play. Alex Petan places the puck on the blue line and shoots it into the left corner to make it 1:2. |
Out of nowhere | Vorarlberg increased the score to 3:1, although Pustertal had been in control in the second period. Marlon Tschofen rounded Pasquale and pushed the ball over the line. A little later, Keefer increased the score to 4:1. |
Pustertal hopes | In the third period, things go back and forth. Akeson serves Wesley in front of the goal, who shows good vision and plays across to Findlay, who scores to make it 2:4. Shortly afterwards, Lacroix finally scores and reduces the score to 3:4 |
Vorarlberg again | Maier is left completely alone in front of the goal by the Pustertal defenders and increases the score to 5:3. Bitter for the Wolves. |
Pustertal fights | Alex Petan scores a brace and converts a pass from Akeson into the goal to make it 4:5. |
The Wolves will continue on Friday from 19.15pm in Villach, which lost 2:4 against HCB Südtirol on Wednesday.
