HC Pustertal: The start of the season goes wrong
On Sunday, HC Pustertal suffered its third defeat in four games of the season at Olimpija Ljubljana. It would therefore not be presumptuous to call it a small false start.

The HCP deservedly lost 1:2 to Olimpija Ljubljana. The goal difference of 47:27 speaks for itself - in favor of the home team. The Pustertal defenders defended passionately and successfully fought off the first goal for a long time, but conceded a double blow at the beginning of the final third. This ultimately decided the game.
For Ljubljana, however, the start of the season was a complete success. The green dragons celebrated their fourth win in four games and are behind the HCB Südtirol Alperia, who won in Vienna on Sunday, and this year's extremely strong Graz99ers in third place.
HC Pustertal, on the other hand, has to make do with a smaller plan this year. After the sensational semi-final appearance last year, the team was rejuvenated in the summer. Jason Jespers was also appointed as a new coach. The black and yellows still need time to find their feet. This was evident in the derby in Bolzano a week ago. Two days after the important victory in the Tyrolean derby against HC Innsbruck, a certain disillusionment has set in. The Slovenians' pace was simply too high for the Wolves at times.
The highlights
Lots of chances, no goals | The hosts got off to a better start in the first third. Over the first 40 minutes, an open exchange of blows developed, with Ljubljana finding the better chances to score. The Slovenians repeatedly failed due to their own inability or HCP keeper Roy. |
Quick double strike | At the start of the final third, the moment had come: Laibach took a deserved lead after one and a half minutes: Tomazevic confidently finished off an attack by the home team to make it 1-0. This time, Roy didn't make the best impression. Just two minutes later, Laibach increased the score to 2-0. Bicevskis scored from a rebound. |
Mantinger creates tension | Five minutes before the end, the tension suddenly returns. After a pass from Purdeller, Mantinger puts the puck in the net from the air. |
HC Pustertal has a chance to make amends on Wednesday. The away game against serial champions Salzburg will certainly not be any easier. On Friday and Sunday, the team from Bruneck will then play two home games against Linz and Klagenfurt. After that, at the latest, we will see where the new HCP really stands.
