ICE final: Klagenfurt hits back impressively

The KAC struck back impressively in the final series of the ICE Ice Hockey League against Red Bull Salzburg.

Two days after the home defeat, the record champions won 5-2 in Salzburg on Sunday and made it 1-1 in the best of seven series. At the best time, the Carinthians ended their six-game losing streak in the Volksgarten and can now take the lead with home advantage on Tuesday (19.30:XNUMX p.m.).

On Friday the only goal was only scored in the 65th minute, and the fans didn't have to wait long in game two. The home team started the game with a lot of enthusiasm and took the lead in their first power play through Troy Bourke, whose shoe the puck jumped into the goal (3rd). But the KAC became noticeably stronger, took command and equalized after a nice individual effort from Nik Petersen (17th).

In the middle third, the best team in the regular season pulled ahead to 3-1 thanks to good penalty killing and efficiency. The 32-time champion survived around seven minutes without conceding a goal while outnumbered and twice overcame Salzburg goalkeeper Atte Tolvanen. First, Lukas Haudum deflected a shot from Raphael Herburger to make it 2-1 (24th), and in the 33rd minute Paul Postma increased the score after a Haudum pass. In the final third, Haudum (44th), man of the evening with two goals and two assists, and Jan Mursak (49th) made everything clear in the power play.

Raffl's record goal is not enough

But Thomas Raffl set the final point with a record goal. The Salzburg captain scored in the majority to make the final score (57th) and, according to Puls24 statistics, is now the league's most successful final scorer. Raffl therefore has 14 final goals and moved ahead of Thomas Koch and Matthias Trattnig (13 each).

The KAC, which once again had to replace the ailing captain Thomas Hundertpfund, is still unbeaten away from home in this year's play-off and took its sixth win in a foreign venue.
