Now it works in the power play: Bozen outclasses KAC
The HCB Südtirol Alperia passed the next test brilliantly on Wednesday evening. The power play, which had been the big problem child recently, was partly responsible for the landslide victory against a nervous EC KAC. Daniel Frank & Co. thus extended their lead in the table.

If there was anything to complain about in the league leader's season so far, it was undoubtedly the power play. A success rate of just 17,2 percent does not do justice to the expectations of Glen Hanlon's team. Recently, nine opposing penalties passed without a single goal from the HCB. The Foxes obviously worked on this before the duel in Carinthia, as they scored three power play goals. These paved the way for the well-deserved 7:2 away victory.
The game-deciding scene occurred shortly before the end of the evenly balanced first period. Thimo Nickl checked Luca Frigo into the boards from behind and was sent to the showers for it. The HCB striker remained dazed but returned to the ice in the middle period. In the five-minute power play, the guests scored to make it 3:1. Although the White-Reds conceded a shorthander shortly afterwards, they were the dominant team from then on. And because Klagenfurt subsequently lost their nerve and collected penalties one after the other, Bozen had no trouble extending their lead little by little.

The evening was special for three strikers who have been longing for personal success recently: Daniel Frank scored his first goal of the season at the tenth attempt. Braden Christoffer and Brad McClure, who had been waiting for a goal for over a month, also ended a long dry spell. After the fifth victory in a row, there are only smiling faces at the HCB. When champions Salzburg visit the Sparkasse Arena on Friday (19.45:XNUMX p.m.), this series will be put to the test again.
The highlights
KAC cheers | The Red Jackets take the lead with their first chance: after a one-two between Nick Petersen and Matt Fraser, the latter is there with the follow-up shot. |
Quick response | The Füchse are not shocked and react promptly. KAC goalkeeper Sebastian Dahm cannot hold onto a long-range shot from Valentine and Anthony Salinitri, lurking in front of the goal, scores. |
The power play stands out | Michele Marchetti skilfully blocks Dahm's view and sets up Simon Bourque's 2-1 goal. The Canadian scores his first goal of the season with a long-range shot. |
Salinitri, the Sniper | The HCB uses the five-minute power play to increase the score to 3:1. Salinitri puts a shot right into the corner. Fraser, assisted by Thomas Hundertpfund, scores the equalizer shortly afterwards while the team is short-handed. |
KAC collapses | Daniel Mantenuto steals the puck from From in the final period and sets up Frank perfectly. Christoffer, Cristiano DiGiacinto and McClure then increase the score even further. |
