The big return: Peter Spornberger becomes a native of Bolzano

While the previous transfer reports from HCB Südtirol Alperia had become apparent, the club surprised on Thursday by signing a national player: Peter Spornberger is moving from the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) to the Talferstadt.

Before the home World Cup in Bolzano, Peter Spornberger said in conversation with SportNews: “At some point my girlfriend and I would like to move our center of life to South Tyrol. Maybe then I’ll play for Ritten or Bozen.” At that point, everything indicated that Rittner would stay in Germany. After his last club, the Schwenninger Wild Wings, announced that Spornberger would be leaving the club, his return to South Tyrol took on more concrete forms. So now it is a fact.

The 25-year-old moved to EV Landshut in 2015 and played for the Bavarian club for three years before joining EHC Freiburg in the DEL2 via the Kölner Haie youth department. Strong performances ultimately earned him a contract with the Schwenninger Wild Wings in the German upper house in 2021. Spornberger has made regular appearances for Alex Trivellato's club over the last three seasons, although he had to sit in the stands more in the past season. Because of this, he only played 30 games this season, in which he collected eight scorer points.

A leader at HCB

There are said to have been several interested parties from the DEL in the spring, but the 1,86 meter tall and 94 kilogram defender decided to return to South Tyrol. This means that the HCB once again has a local defender under contract who will take on a leadership role within the team.
