Victory with superstition: Alex Petan redeems himself and the HCP

After a series of defeats with six defeats from seven games, the first ghosts of crisis were already conjured up at HC Pustertal. The Wolves drove them away again on Friday evening at the latest: In one of the most difficult away games of the season - namely against Klagenfurt - the Wolves managed a 2-1 win, which consolidated their place in the top 6. And it became clear: the HCP is a real team.

Without Christian Kåsastul, who was missing for family reasons, a player who has had an almost endless dry spell became the match winner. On October 1st, Alex Petan scored his last goal to date. The Italian-Canadian, who got off to a fantastic start to the season, spent 13 games chasing a goal, but in his 14th attempt it finally worked. There was also a pinch of superstition involved in his 2-1 winning goal. Just a few minutes earlier, Petan exchanged his racket with the white tape bandage for a new piece of gaming equipment wrapped in black. True to the motto: If it doesn't work with the old racket, then hopefully with the new one.

A trick that really worked. After the goal, Petan played like he was unleashed and was the best man on the ice, closely followed by his goalkeeper Andreas Bernard. The Kalterer – together with his perfectly adjusted and compact front men – offered a flawless performance and at times caused the offensive KAC steamroller to despair. No wonder that the goalkeeper is now ahead in the team's internal duel for the goalie position against Jake Smith. Also worth mentioning is the team performance of the Wolves cracks, who threw themselves passionately into every duel and shot. The strong Matthias Mantinger says thank you and puts them in the empty housing. 10 seconds... ... Klagenfurt needs to convert the first power play of the game into a goal. Nick Petersen blocks goalie Andy Bernard's view, Jan Mursak measures the disc exactly under the crossbar - and it's 1:1 (18th). Salvation Alex Petan has been waiting for a goal for 13 games and now the spell is breaking. With a seamless one-timer from the slot, the Italian-Canadian not only shoots Pustertal to victory, but also takes a huge load off his mind (38th). Then the wolves cleverly close the doors. The people of Bruneck can now look forward to a weekend without games, and things continue on Tuesday in Vorarlberg. And then the big highlight is coming up: On Friday, December 1st, the second derby of the season against HC Bozen will take place in the Intercable Arena. The Foxes won 4-2 against Innsbruck on Friday and celebrated their ninth win in a row.

Every team has a difficult time in Klagenfurt. So far this season only HC Bozen has managed to take the Carinthian fortress. Now HC Pustertal did the same – also thanks to a bizarre trick from top striker Alex Petan.
