NHL: Makar plays the superstar

Colorado defenseman Cale Makar scored the first hat trick of his NHL career in a 7-2 win over Detroit. The Canadian from Calgary also prepared a goal. Top attacker Nathan MacKinnon also scored four points in this game.

Colorado, the 2022 NHL champions, has several aces on its star-studded roster. Cale Makar certainly stands out in defense. The 25-year-old defender is considered to be probably the best offensive defender in the best league in the world.

In addition to his hat trick against the Red Wings, his 70 points (17 goals, 53 assists) in his 59 games this season are impressive. Behind Quinn Hughes (Vancouver/73 points), Makar is currently the second best defender in terms of goals and assists.

MacKinnon is never full

Attacker Nathan MacKinnon managed at least one point in his 31st home game in a row. The Avalanche star managed one goal and three assists in the win over Detroit. With 109 points, he now leads the NHL scoring charts.

Auston Matthews, however, became the match winner for Toronto. The American scored his 54th goal of the season in the 2-1 overtime win against the Buffalo Sabres.
