NHL: The Matthews Gala

Toronto's top attacker led the Maple Leafs to a 7-2 win over Washington with two goals and three assists. Russian Alex Ovechkin scored both goals for the Capitals.

Auston Matthews is a Toronto fan favorite. He's scoring goals on a regular basis - 57 in this year's NHL season. But he also prepares them, as his three assists against Washington prove.

Ovechkin has been scoring goals in the best league in the world for 19 years now. The 38-year-old has 845 goals - he is still 49 short of Wayne Gretzky's all-time record (894). Ovechkin currently has 1.539 scoring points in the NHL.

Dallas with a mandatory win

At the Airlines Center, the Dallas Stars won 5-2 against Arizona. Jason Robertson had one goal and one assist for the “Stars”. After their 42nd win of the season, Dallas is in second place behind Vancouver in the Western Conference with Winnipeg and Colorado.

Kucherov just ahead of MacKinnon

As far as the top scorer crown is concerned, Nikita Kucherov (Tampa Bay/118 points) and Nathan MacKinnon (Colorado/117) are in a hot duel. Connor McDavid (Edmonton/108) follows in third place.
