At the last minute: Switzerland bends brave Austria

Austria's ice hockey team also lost the second game at the World Championships in Prague, but shocked a medal contender in the meantime.

The ÖEHV selection lost to Switzerland on Sunday after a strong performance due to five goals when they were outnumbered 5:6 (2:1,2:3,1:2). The third goal from New Jersey striker Nico Hischier 50 seconds before the end gave the Swiss the three points.

However, Austria definitely deserved a point: with a strong David Kickert in goal, they showed a completely different face the day before in the 1:5 against Denmark, were committed and strong offensively. Switzerland, who only came with players from the strong domestic league and the NHL (6), were superior, but gave the red-white-red a lot of freedom and only got their head out of the loop with five power play goals and an outstanding Hischier.

Austria even had a great chance to make it three points: the NHL star had the score at 56:6 in the 5th minute, but the Swiss NHL goalkeeper Akira Schmid made a spectacular save. After that, Hischier made another big appearance.

In the second Sunday evening game, title candidate Sweden showed no weakness in beating Poland 5-1.
