Austria's quarter-final dream has shattered

Austria's ice hockey team lost the last group game at the Ice Hockey World Championships in Prague and thus lost their chance of advancing to the quarter-finals. Germany, on the other hand, ended the group stage with a win.

The ÖEHV selection had to admit defeat to Great Britain 2:4 (0:0,1:1,1:3) on Tuesday and thus fell behind Finland. With seven points, Austria finished the tournament in tenth place, making it into the top ten for the first time in 21 years.

Even if the conclusion was a total failure, the tournament is a great success with the early and third relegation in a row, the sensations against Canada (6:7 after extra time) and Finland (3:2) and the victory over Norway (4:1). to evaluate. Austria will therefore take part in the 2025 World Cup from May 9th to 25th in Sweden (Stockholm) and Denmark (Herning).

After a goalless first third, defender Clemens Unterweger made it 1-0 (23rd). But the lead didn't last long. The British, who had been relegated since the day before, turned the game around in the power play in front of 16.306 spectators. Ben O'Connor scored twice in the majority (28'). Brett Perlini deservedly gave the British the lead again in the final third (42'). Evan Mosey (51') added the third British goal. Just over four and a half minutes before the end, Bader took Kickert off the ice and brought in a sixth field player. The British ended their last hopes just six seconds later with a shot from Robert Dowd into the empty goal (56th). Mario Huber scored in the power play to make it the final score (60').

Germany beats France

With the next goal gala, the German national ice hockey team got in the mood for the quarter-finals at the World Cup in the Czech Republic. The team of national coach Harold Kreis defeated France 6:3 (1:1, 3:2, 2:0) in Ostrava on Tuesday. Wojciech Stachowiak (32nd minute/42nd), Marc Michaelis (20th), Lukas Kälble (26th), Maxi Kastner (33rd) and Lukas Reichel (45th) scored for the German team.

Who awaits the runner-up world champion in the quarter-finals on Thursday will only be determined after the final group games on Tuesday evening. Canada, hosts Czech Republic or Switzerland from Group A are the possible opponents.
