Sweden wins bronze, Canada comes away empty-handed

Sweden won bronze at the Ice Hockey World Championships in the Czech Republic, sending reigning world champions Canada home empty-handed.

In the game for third place, the Tre Kronor beat Canada 4:2 (1:0, 0:1, 3:1) in Prague on Sunday. For Sweden, it is the best placement since winning the title in 2018. Record champion Canada, on the other hand, remained without a medal for the first time in six years. In the final this evening (20.20 p.m.) hosts the Czech Republic and Switzerland will face each other.

Carl Grundström scored twice for the Swedes in the game for third place (13th minute/54th). Experienced Erik Karlsson (50th) and Marcus Johansson (60th) were also successful for the Northern Europeans. Dylan Cozens (23rd) and Pierre-Luc Dubois (45th) scored the goals for Canada to take the lead.
