U18 World Cup: Italy defeats Norway

The women's U18 national team is currently competing in the I Division Ice Hockey World Championship. On Friday they achieved another victory against Norway.

The Azzurrine won their third victory at the U-18 World Championships in Division I in Budapest on Friday. After a defeat against the hosts, the Italian team found their way back to winning ways against Norway, winning 2-1. Matilde Fantin became the match winner, scoring twice in the final third to lead her team to victory.

In the Tüskecsarnok Arena in the Hungarian capital, the fans were treated to a match on equal terms, in which both teams could have deservedly left the ice as winners. But it was by no means a goal-scoring spectacle. Ingrid Ness-Jacobsen scored the first goal shortly after the start of the second period (21:35), which the Italians struggled to overcome for a long time.

Fantin's feat

It was not until the third period that the Azzurrine found their way into the goal. First, Matilde Fantin equalized the score at 1:1 (46:17), then she sensationally increased the lead to 2:1 (51:52) while outnumbered. Fantin and Co. held on to this narrow lead until the final whistle, which meant another three points for Italy. Overall, Italy has nine points after four games played in Group A.
