34 South Tyroleans are taking part in the U18 Italian Championships

The three-day athletics festival in Milan is the perfect dress rehearsal for all international events in the summer, including the U18 World Championships in Cali, Colombia (July 15-19). More than 1380 athletes from 300 different clubs from all parts of Italy are expected in Lombardy. There are also 34 South Tyroleans among the participants. They will try to follow in the footsteps of Julia Calliari (last year gold in the 100 meter hurdles) and Markus Puff (last year silver in the 110 meter hurdles) and make the South Tyrolean medal dream come true this year.

Thomas Schiffregger was in the top 10 last year

For the men, South Tyrol's biggest medal hopes rest on Mario Buniolo, who has the seventh fastest time over 100 meters. Daniel Pattis, Italian mountain running champion, is currently number eight nationally in the 3000 meter distance. Thomas Schiffregger, the white jump specialist, took sixth place last year and would like to push even further forward this year.

Realdon, Gruber and the squadrons

Among young women of the same age, Alessandra Realdon is one of South Tyrol's greatest hopes for a medal. She is currently Italy's number two in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14,08 seconds. Two years ago, the athlete from the Bozen Running Club was already the U16 Italian champion in the 80 meter hurdles. The favorites also include Stefanie Gruber, who is currently Italy's number four in the shot put with 13,73 meters.

Two South Tyrolean teams are also rated as very strong. On the one hand, there is the 4x100 meter relay team from the Bozen running club with the second fastest time of the year, and on the other hand there is the 4x400 meter team from SSV Bruneck, which has already run the fourth fastest time at the national level this year.

34 South Tyroleans are taking part in the U18 Italian Championships

From Friday 19th to Sunday 21st June the U18 Italian Athletics Championships will take place in the Arena Milan. There will also be numerous South Tyrolean talents at the start, some of whom definitely have a chance of winning a medal.
