Shot putter Gruber wins silver - South Tyrol in 8th place overall

The results of the South Tyrolean athletes at this year's Italian Youth Championships are impressive. Last weekend, the Kalter javelin thrower Andreas Zagler won gold and the 18 m runner Petra Nardelli won silver at the U400 championships in Jesolo. Also this week at the U16 Italian Championships he won a gold medal with Alessandra Realdon in the 80m hurdles and a “silver” with Stefanie Gruber in the shot put. A proud record.

Stefanie Gruber only had to admit defeat to the big favorite Sydney Giampietro today. The not quite 15-year-old from Lana threw 12.40m and remained 63 cm below her best mark. Giampietro, her mother comes from Nigeria and her father from Foggia, reached an incredible 14,93m. With this distance she would have won the Italian U18 championship title a week ago.

In the 110m hurdles he improved his old record by 13,69 hundredths in 54 seconds, but had to admit defeat to Marco Bigoni (13.17), Stefano Santoprete (13.34) and Loris Manojlovic (13.35). Afterwards, the 4x100 m relay (with Buniolo, Baù and Albrecht) “only” achieved fourth place.

His teammate at SSV Bruneck, Sophie Mayr, took 5th place in the pentathlon. She achieved an impressive 3823 points and improved her record by 579 points. Also worth mentioning are the 6th place of Merano's Markus Gamper in the shot put with 14,36m, the three 7th places of Merano's Daniel Albrecht in the 300m, Bolzano's Valeria Mura in the 80m and the women's sprint relay as well as 9th place the Bolzano high jumper Andreas Galler with the new personal record of 1,81m.

The regional ranking for the "Kinder Cup" in Jesolo went to Lombardy with 590 points, ahead of Veneto (529) and Tuscany (496). South Tyrol took an excellent 411th place with 8 points, improving by two compared to the previous year Ranks.
