South Tyrol's mountain runners are among Italy's best

At the weekend, Daone (Trentino) was the venue for the Italian mountain running relay championships. There the South Tyrolean aces once again made people sit up and take notice.

A three-man relay was on the program for the men, while the women ran in teams of two.

Hannes Perkmann started for Atletica Valli Bergamasche together with Cesare Maestri and Xavier Chevrier. The Sarner mountain running specialist showed a solid performance as the starting runner on the 7 km long circuit (350 m), ran his part of the route in 29.48 minutes and handed over to Maestri, who then sent Chevrier onto the route. After 1:27.37 hours, the runner from Aosta reached the finish first. Second place, 2 seconds behind, went to the La Recastello team. The podium was completed by the local hero trio SA Valchiese (22:1).

In the women's category, however, the Vivien Bonzi/Alice Gaggi duo was at the top. The athletes from La Recastello achieved the best and fourth best times of 35.00 and 36.00 minutes. In the U20 team ranking, the SC Meran duo Anna Hofer/Emily Vucemillo came in second place. The 2-year-old Rablander Hofer set the fifth best time with 18 minutes. Vucemillo from Merano, on the other hand, ran 36.27 minutes. The Passerstadt women only had to admit defeat to the duo from Belluno, Lucia Arnoldo (38.24) and Chiara Pedol (35.38).

On Saturday, another important race is on the agenda for Hofer and Vucemillo as well as Martina Falchetti from Val Gardena with the World Cup in Primiero.
