South Tyrol Elite Team launched

Members of this “team” are a total of 28 young South Tyrolean athletes who are among the national elite in the youth categories U18, U20 and U23. These are young talents who made it to the finals of the Italian Championships in their age group last season and in the current season or who showed the coaching staff that they have potential and special qualities. “I have worked as a trainer for years and, in my role as president, I want to above all try to create ideal training conditions for the young talent. We founded this group to support young talents in those areas where there is a need or demand,” explains the President of the National Athletics Association Bruno Cappello. In recent years, the regional association has invested a lot of time and resources to make athletics even better known with the Grand Prix and to introduce even more young South Tyroleans to this sport. Now the second step should follow, in which the talents who have potential can express this in the best possible way. “In this regard, we have appointed a technical committee composed of trainers with proven experience. We want to enable our young hopefuls to compete at the highest level. “That’s why, among other things, we will organize trips to national and international meetings,” Cappello continued.

Karl Schöpf: “Athletes will continue to work with their own coaches” With this initiative, the regional association does not want to take athletes away from their clubs or coaches. The aim is to support the young hopefuls in their work. “The relationship between the athlete and his club or coach should not be impaired, but should be enlivened. If necessary, the technical commission will make a contribution to promoting the young talents, but without interfering in their everyday training,” said coach Karl Schöpf.

South Tyrol Elite Team launched

The new project of the regional athletics association FIDAL, which is called “South Tyrol Elite Team” and serves to support local young talent, was presented this morning in the House of Sports in Bolzano.
