This lady wants to put on the New Year's Eve show in Bolzano

Nadia Battocletti from Nonsberg, the reigning vice-European cross-country champion, is coming to the Talferstadt and last year's third-placed Maxime Chaumeton from South Africa is also there again.

The successful athlete manager Gianni Demadonna brings some of the world's best long-distance runners to the BOclassic South Tyrol every year. And it has now become a tradition that shortly before Christmas he places a gift in the form of further commitments under the Christmas tree for the busy organizers from the Bozen Raiffeisen Runners Club. This year it is primarily Nadia Battocletti.

Italian record holder from Cavareno The 23-year-old from Cavareno, just behind the Mendel ridge, is the daughter of the former world-class long-distance runner Giuliano Battocletti and the former 800-meter runner Jawhara Saddougui.

A week and a half ago she won the European Championship silver medal in cross-country running in Brussels. The nine-time Italian champion won gold with the team at the European Games in Poland. At the European Indoor Championships in Istanbul, Battocletti finished fourth and narrowly missed a medal, and at the Road World Championships in Riga she came fifth over 5 km and set a new Italian record with a time of 14.45 minutes.

In Bolzano, Nadia Battocletti has already made people sit up and take notice with a top result. That was two years ago when she came third. Now on New Year's Eve in the narrow streets of Bolzano she will have a thrilling duel with Margaret Chelimo Kipkemboi (Kenya), who has already won the BOclassic Südtirol twice - in 2019 and 2020. By the way, the last victory by an Italian woman was 35 years ago: in 1988, the legendary Maria Curatolo won the BOclassic Südtirol.

Will the next Chaumeton show follow? In the men's category, crowd favorite Yeman Crippa from Trentino faces strong competition from South African Maxime Chaumeton. Last year, the 23-year-old dictated the pace on the first six of a total of eight laps and ended up in third place - behind winner Oscar Chelimo and Crippa, who was able to climb onto the podium for the first time in Bolzano. This year, Chaumeton was crowned South African champion over 5000 meters on the track and runner-up national champion over 5km on the road.

Another favorite to win the day is likely to be Kenyan Sebastian Kimaru Sawe. The 28-year-old was crowned half marathon world champion almost three months ago in Riga. He also won the adizero Road to Records race with a time of 26.49 minutes and was also successful in a 10km race in Bengalaru, India. German marathon specialist Hendrick Pfeiffer, who, like Sawe, is taking part in the BOclassic Südtirol for the first time, is also looking for a strong result.

The elite races at the BOclassic Südtirol start at 13.30:14 p.m. (women) and 11 p.m. (men). In the run-up to the top-class New Year's Eve run, a Just For Fun (12 a.m.), the BOclassic Ladurner Volklauf (12.50 p.m.) and the Raiffeisen Youth Cup (XNUMX p.m.) take place.
