Georg Brunner uses home advantage to achieve prestige success - ALL RESULTS

“Brunner Schorsch will be dangerous this time,” record winner Hermann Achmüller announced before the race. After all, Brunner was already second this year at the Kalteresee half marathon and at the spring half marathon in Meran - behind Hannes Rungger in both cases. The man from Sarn was also the favorite in the Raiffeisen 3/4 half marathon, having won the previous two editions. When Brunner turned into the home straight first after 17,6 km, Achmüller was also surprised. Brunner crossed the finish line after 58:04. For the 40-year-old from Olanger, it was the second triumph in the 3/4 half marathon after 2008.

Brunner was more than two minutes faster than Rungger and also faster than Rungger in his victories in 2011 and 2012. "If it works, then it works," Brunner commented dryly on his victory. "This race just suits me. I took part in all 15 editions. Of course I also have a home advantage. In winter I train here three times a week because it is the only flat course that is cleared of snow." Brunner was able to pull away from Rungger after just 5 km in Gais. Third place went to Michael Burger, last year's overall Top7 winner. Record winner Achmüller had to witness the finish as a spectator for the first time. The 42-year-old had to give up in Gais due to a muscle injury and drive to the finish line.

Kathrin Hanspeter wins among women In the women's race, Kathrin Hanspeter achieved a start-to-finish victory. There were no competitive women anywhere in sight. The winner was still surprised. "You never know in races like this. But I'm glad it worked out. I planned the race optimally." She would only have hoped for a little more help from her male colleagues. "I ran with a group of men, but unfortunately I always had to do the speed work myself." Hanspeter clearly relegated Edeltraud Thaler and Petra Pircher to their places. With second place, Thaler was able to extend her lead in the top 7 overall standings over Pircher.

841 registered participants, 709 “finishers” and participants from all five continents: the organizers of the Raiffeisen 3/4 half marathon were beaming at the new record number of participants competing with the winners. Winner Georg Brunner also beamed from the whirlpool. For the 15th anniversary, two whirlpools were available for participants to relax in. Brunner was also one of the first in the pool. Only when he got out did he take his time - for once.

The Top7 series will continue on September 22rd with the Soltn mountain half marathon. Finally, the Half Marathon of the Three Municipalities in Branzoll follows on October 27th.

Georg Brunner and Kathrin Hanspeter are the winners of the 15th edition of the Raiffeisen 3/4 half marathon over 17,6 km from Bruneck to Sand in Taufers. Both have already won the VSS state championship this year. The organizers set a new record with 709 participants.
