A total of 16 participants (4 women and 12 men) from Italy and Austria took part in the competition in Lana. Four local athletes, Nathalie Kofler, Nicolò Fusaro, Frederic Schöpf and Jakob Niederfriniger, were also registered. SVL ace Kofler delivered a brilliant performance in pleasant evening temperatures.
The 23-year-old local hero was determined to improve her own national record of 4.21 m and did so with ease. Kofler had no major difficulties at 4.05 m and 4.15 m (on her first and second attempts respectively) and then cracked the 4.25 m mark on her second attempt. Kofler then failed three times at 4.30 m, but the new national record was already a done deal.
In the men's competition, the day's victory went to Nicolò Fusaro. The Bozen native, who had a personal best of 5.26 m, won with 4.80 m. The host Frederic Schöpf came in at 3.90 m, and Vinschgau native Jakob Niederfriniger at 3.40 m.
