Strong performances at “Mennea Day” in Bolzano

35 years ago, on September 12, 1979, Mennea ran the 200 m in a world record time of 19,72 seconds in Mexico City. This record has not been beaten in Europe to this day. At the meeting in Bolzano, junior Alessandro Monte ran the fastest time in 22,94 seconds. He won ahead of Michael Albrecht from Meran (23,01), who holds the U16 Italian record over 300 m. The fastest among the women, however, was the U18 runner Julia Calliari from Siebeneich, who achieved a good 200 seconds in her first ever 25,63 m start. Calliari prevailed ahead of Valentina Cavalleri (25,76) and Valeria Mura (26,24). Monte also won the 100 m in Bolzano in 11,15 seconds ahead of Jim Folajin Fonseca (11,28) and Mario Buniolo (11,32). Shot putter Karl Telser also showed strong performances with 15,82 m and javelin thrower Hubert Göller with 60,38 m. Junior Andreas Zagler threw 57,24 m.

U16 athletes are preparing for the Italian Championships in Borgo At the Bolzano meeting, which was organized by SC Berg, some U16 Grand Prix competitions were also held. Michael Albrecht won the 80 m in a headwind in 9,56 seconds ahead of Andreas Fuchsberger (9,78). The Meraner's best time is 9,40 seconds.
