The Athletic Club 96 Bozen competes in the “Finale Oro”.

The 2014 Italian championship title will be awarded in the venerable Arena Civica in Milan. The twelve best teams compete against each other there. Defending champion Studentesca CaRiRi enters the race as the big favorite, clearly dominating the regional championship phase with 18.618 points and finishing ahead of Enterprise Sport & Service (18.388) and Atletica Riccardi Milan (18.375). The Athletic Club 96 from Bolzano follows in eleventh place with 17.382 points. However, on the crucial weekend in Milan, all teams start from scratch. So the cards are being reshuffled. The Athletic Club 96 has been taking part in the national finals continuously since 2005. After 2007 and 2010, the people of Bolzano are competing in the highest class, the “Finale Oro”, for the third time. The South Tyroleans' hope is undoubtedly Paolo Dal Molin. The vice-European champion in the 60m hurdles competes in the 110m hurdles, where he holds the Italian best time of the year with 13,47 seconds. He also completes the 100 m relay. Those responsible also have high expectations for discus thrower Daniel Compagno, who came fourth at the Italian Championships, and the strong middle-distance runner Machmach. In addition to them, the line-up includes numerous other top South Tyrolean athletes, such as shot putter Karl Telser, javelin thrower Hubert Göller, pole vaulter Manfred Menz and decathlete Marco Colombo, who will compete in both the pole vault and the 110m hurdles. However, numerous young talents will also be making their debut on the big stage in Milan. First and foremost, these are the twins Luca and Ruben Cola in the 400 m relay and Alessandro Monte, who forms the high-ranking 100 m relay with Dal Molin, Trionfo and Bertolone. Fabrizio Crinò (European Masters Champion over 400m hurdles) and the promising talents Marco Spagnolli and Lorenzo Pagliotta are also traveling to Lombardy as reserves. The highly anticipated “Finale Oro” in Milan will be broadcast in the form of a recap on October 3rd (from 16 p.m.) on RaiSport 1.
