South Tyrolean Taekwondo medals in Zagreb

Last weekend, the Sutinska Vrela sports hall in Zagreb was transformed into an international Taekwondo hotspot: The 29th Croatia Open attracted more than 800 athletes and, thanks to its G1 status, is one of the most important competitions in the European tournament calendar.

In addition to numerous European nations, fighters from the USA, Korea and Brazil also took part.

Three promising young athletes from Taekwondo Südtirol Eurotherm competed in the U18 category: Maya Wenin, Anna Gruber, and Mihail Gacov. The tournament was particularly successful for Maya Wenin (-52 kg) and Anna Gruber (-63 kg). Both fought their way confidently to the semifinals, where they were defeated by strong opponents from Ukraine and Germany, respectively. Nevertheless, they were delighted to win a well-deserved bronze medal – a remarkable achievement at such a high-caliber international tournament.
