Karate competition season has begun

At the “Trofeo Triveneto” of the FIK (Federazione Italiana Karate) in Udine yesterday, Karate Mühlbach took part with nine athletes in the Kumite (dueling) discipline and achieved eight podium places.

At first glance, eight podium places sounds like a dream result. “In order to be able to speak of a dream result, we still have to work a lot of overtime, both technically and tactically,” said coach Martin Pezzei after this interregional tournament in Udine.

It was the first competition of the new karate season and was primarily used by Karate Mühlbach to determine its position; The athletes were supposed to implement in the competition what they had trained in the past few months.

In addition to great performances by some athletes, the coaching team also realized that there is still a lot of room for improvement. The fact that for most athletes it had been several months since their last competition was clearly visible. “Recognizing that every competition has to be developed anew and requires 100% focus not only allows our athletes to become more and more goal-oriented as competitors, but also represents enormous value for their personal development,” says Pezzei.

Not completely satisfied yet

If Karate Mühlbach came in eighth place in the overall ranking of the 27 participating clubs, that is not yet the goal for the team from the market town of Mühlbach, which is used to success, “since more would have been possible - also because the standard in this competition is not was too high,” says Pezzei.
Frida Schweiger (Cadetti +55kg, brown and black belts) and Fabian Pezzei (Seniors -80kg, brown and black belts) achieved the top spot on the podium. Silver was won by Florian Filehner (seniors, -74kg, brown and black belts), Lorenz Mantinger (juniors -68kg, up to blue belt) and Ramón Motta (esordienti -50kg, up to green belt).

The bronze medal went to Laura Peintner (Cadetti, -55kg, up to blue belt), Darko Ostojic (seniors, +80kg, brown and black belts) and Martin Pezzei (seniors, -74kg, brown and black belts). Madleen Unterhuber (Cadetti -47kg, up to blue belt), who came up against the eventual winner in the first fight, narrowly missed the podium.

The man of the day was Ramón Motta, who managed to approach each of his four fights with a different strategy. “This is a testament to the repertoire that our athletes have and allows us to look forward to the next challenges in this exciting season with confidence,” said Pezzei.
