After the horror crash: the all-clear at Bagnaia

The MotoGP race in Barcelona was overshadowed on Sunday by an orgy of crashes on the first lap, Francesco “Pecco” Bagnaia had to go to hospital. A short time later, however, the all-clear was given.

The 26-year-old Bagnaia, who started from pole position, was in the lead after turn 2 at the Catalan Grand Prix and flew off his Ducati in a high arc and was unfortunately run over in the knee area by Brad Binder shortly afterwards (SportNews reported). Already in turn 1, 5 top Ducati riders were thrown off the track in a mass crash.

Bagnaia was conscious and was flown by helicopter to a hospital. As his team later announced, he suffered several bruises in the fall, but medical examinations revealed no fractures. It is quite possible that the Italian will be back on the motorcycle next weekend in the San Marino Grand Prix.

Bagnaia's compatriot and teammate Elia Bastianini caused the mass fall and was then no longer able to compete. He suffered a fracture of the tibia bone and a fracture of a metacarpal bone on the left side.

After the interruption of almost 30 minutes, the race was restarted. Ultimately, Ducati didn't have a single rider there at the restart. Aprilia driver Aleix Espargaro took victory.
