Verstappen remains the sprint king

The Dutchman won after 23 laps at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg on Saturday, ahead of the two McLaren drivers Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris. After some tough duels in the first few laps, the opening race on this sunny Grand Prix weekend was a confident affair for the world champion.

"We had to work a bit for it in this race," said Verstappen after his third sprint win this season and his third in Spielberg. "When we were out of the DRS window, I was able to drive my own race a bit more," he said. "It was very, very sharp in the first few laps, but a very, very good pace," confirmed team boss Christian Horner to his team leader, who had already won the sprint in Shanghai and Miami. In the World Championship standings, Verstappen extended his lead over Briton Norris to 71 points.
