South Tyrolean sport is starting again

After the state law on Corona phase 2 came into force, state governor and state sports councilor Arno Kompatscher invited all sports associations and sports clubs to a virtual discussion on Tuesday evening. Around 50 top representatives of the South Tyrolean sports world accepted the invitation and spoke to the governor about the gradual resumption of sporting activities. “The new state law creates new freedoms in many areas. This also applies to sport,” informed the state governor. The questions of what is allowed, what is not and which protective measures must be observed were the focus of the exchange of information, which was also attended by the department director for sports, Marion Markart, as well as the responsible department director Armin Hölzl and his deputy Laura Savoia. Organized training only for top athletes It was emphasized that, in accordance with government regulations, only top athletes (atleti di interest nazionale) are currently allowed to complete organized training in compliance with all prevention and protective measures. Outdoor sports, however, are allowed for everyone. Self-declaration is no longer necessary. “All individual sports activities are possible. Given the increased risk of infection, team sports cannot be practiced at the moment,” explained Kompatscher. When exercising, a safe distance of three meters applies. If this cannot be adhered to, the respiratory tract must be protected. People who live together in one household are excluded. Outdoor sports facilities can open The new state law allows outdoor sports facilities to be used. However, changing rooms and showers must remain closed. The operator decides whether to open the sports facilities, who also ensures compliance with the prevention and protective measures as well as the supervision systems. “This means that a tennis court, a golf course, a shooting range or a running track can be opened,” said the state governor. Financial support options were also discussed. The state governor announced special financing for clubs for the fall, which takes into account the shortfall in income from course fees, sponsorship and events. Governor Kompatscher concluded with an appeal for personal responsibility and called on the over 900 clubs and associations with more than 151.200 members and over 20.000 employees to raise awareness about living with the virus.
