Special Olympics with around 50 South Tyroleans

This year's Special Olympics National Winter Games, the organization for people with cognitive disabilities, will take place in Abruzzo from Monday, March 2nd, to Friday, March 6th, with most of the competitions being held in Ovindoli.

Team South Tyrol will once again be represented by a strong squad, both in alpine and cross-country skiing. Around 50 athletes from the clubs Sport & Friends, Lebenshilfe, Sportclub Meran, and Sportclub Grole will represent South Tyrol to the best of their ability.

For people with disabilities, sport is more than just success; it means community and provides important meaning.

“That is precisely why it is important to us to inspire as many people with cognitive impairments as possible to participate in the various sports offered by Special Olympics,” said Martha Stocker, President of Special Olympics Team South Tyrol.

Before the send-off in Bolzano South, Provincial Councillor for Sport Peter Brunner offered the athletes the following wishes: “With your dedication, you demonstrate how sport connects people and creates special experiences. I wish you successful competitions, many wonderful encounters, and unforgettable moments in the spirit of community.”
