Wierer and Sinner are among the best that South Tyrolean sport has ever produced. In the doping scandal surrounding the tennis star, the Niederrasner has now come to the Sextner's aid. "Jannik is going through a difficult situation that I can hardly imagine. I hope that everything will soon turn out for the better. Perhaps even the WADA does not have a clear idea on this issue. Who knows, perhaps the criticism of other athletes or all the polemics in the media also played a role," Wierer explained to the Trentino medium. il Dolomiti.
As a reminder: The World Anti-Doping Agency has been demanding a ban of one to two years for Sinner since Saturday. Although the acquittal by the Tennis Anti-Doping Agency (ITIA) remains legally binding for the time being, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) must now deal with WADA's appeal and convene a hearing for both sides. It will probably take months before this happens, Sinner is allowed to continue competing in tournaments until then.
“I am sure that Jannik has nothing to hide.” Dorothea Wierer on the Sinner case
In any case, Wierer firmly believes in Sinner's innocence: "Jannik is a very good guy, a full-time professional and a great athlete. I am sure that he has nothing to hide. It must be really frustrating to be in this situation. If you have done nothing wrong, but your fate is in someone else's hands, it is very unpleasant," said the 34-year-old biathlete.
