Barbara Gambaro started shooting sports for fun at the age of 14. Before that, she was a swimmer and also played tennis. The young athlete from Schlanders was immediately characterized by a down-to-earth demeanor and a lot of hard work in training. The three-position shooting developed into her speciality.

In 2022, her years of hard work will be rewarded with a super result. At the World Cup in Changwon, Korea, she finished second in the three-position competition. By taking part in the 2 Olympics in Paris, she will fulfill a childhood dream. “I want to be happy with my performance in Paris. The rest will follow naturally.” Barbara Gambaro "She's getting the finishing touches for the Summer Games in Eppan. It's just a shame that we'll be working quite far away from Paris, but it will still be exciting and fun."

No one from Gambaro's family will be cheering her on in Paris. "Because of my late qualification, it was practically impossible to get tickets," the 32-year-old regrets.

She doesn't think too much about placings or medals. That could backfire. Gambaro says: "I just want to be happy with my performance at the Summer Games. A mammoth program could await Gambaro in Paris. On the first day of the competition, she will be competing with Danilo Sollazzo in the mixed 1-meter air rifle competition. The qualification begins at 10 a.m. and the final will be at 9 a.m.

"I hope to be in action often in Paris. It starts on the first day with the mixed competition. I will try to enjoy the competition. There is no point in putting yourself under pressure."
