European Table Tennis Championships: It’s over in the quarterfinals

Although the Italian women's national team lost 0-3 to Germany in the European Championship quarter-finals, it was still the best European Championship for the Azzurre in 15 years.

Debora Vivarelli, Nikoleta Stefanowa, Giorgia Piccolin and Gaia Manfordani were the heroines of the European Table Tennis Championships in Malmö (Sweden). Before the tournament, the Azzurre were considered clear “underdogs”, but the team from the boot state with the two South Tyroleans Vivarelli and Piccolin climbed the stairs step by step into the quarter-finals. First they left Turkey behind in the group of three (France won the group), then in the round of 3 there was a surprise win against the Czech Republic (2:0). In the quarterfinals, Piccolin and Co. met Germany and lost 3-XNUMX to the tournament favorites.

Stefanowa played the three games and lost to world number 10 Han Ying (3:11, 5:11, 6:11). Piccolin lost to Nina Mittelham (No. 22) 7:11, 10:12 and 6:11, while the third game between Monfardini and Shan Xiano (No. 34) was lost by the German 7:11, 4:11 and 12 :14 was won. Vivarelli was only used in the first game against France.
