3 finals places are still open: Who will win?

After Jannik Sinner's cancellation of the Masters tournament in Paris-Bercy, the Sextner is aiming for the ATP Finals in Turin as the last big highlight of the year. Of the 8 participants, only 5 are confirmed.

The ATP Finals, featuring the 10 best tennis players of the year, will take place from November 8th. However, only 5 participants have been confirmed so far: Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev, Daniil Medvedev and Taylor Fritz. The remaining 3 professionals have yet to be determined - and even a top star like Novak Djokovic is not yet certain to be there.

The Serb, currently 6th in the annual ranking and thus qualified, should mathematically qualify for the ATP Finals. Journal of Sport However, he suspects that Djokovic could cancel. Djokovic is currently in the Maldives, where he is vacationing with his family. Like Sinner, Djokovic has canceled his participation in the Masters tournament in Paris-Bercy - but without giving a reason. If Djokovic cancels, 9th place would be enough to qualify for the ATP Finals.

Rublev and Ruud on the decline

Casper Ruud is currently in 7th place in the annual rankings. The Norwegian is completely out of form, however. In recent weeks, Ruud has suffered (almost) nothing but defeats. He was also knocked out in the first round in Paris. Andrey Rublev (1th) is also not exactly brimming with confidence. The Russian also lost in the first round in Paris and could still slip out of the top 8.

Alex de Minaur could pose a threat to him. The Vienna semi-finalist is in better form than Ruud and Rublev and won his first-round match in Paris. If the Australian advances to the quarter-finals, he would overtake Rublev in the annual rankings.

Who has faint hopes?

Grigor Dimitrov (11th) and Stefanos Tsitsipas (12th) are also holding out hope. Bulgarian Dimitrov reached the final in Paris last year and this is also necessary this year if he wants to get on the finals train. Tsitsipas, on the other hand, has to win the tournament. The same goes for Holger Rune (13th), who also needs another tournament win (next week there are 250 tournaments in Metz and Belgrade). Tommy Paul missed a huge chance when he was surprisingly knocked out in round 1 in Paris. A defeat that could have cost him his place in the finals.
