After 658 days: Berrettini is tournament winner
Italy's former number one had to wait a long, very long time for a title on the ATP tour, now the spell has been broken - and in an impressive way.

Matteo Berrettini played his 13th final on the ATP tour this Sunday. And he won it with a sheer show of force. He beat Spanish clay court specialist Roberto Carballes Baena (ATP 64) in the final round of the ATP 250 tournament in Marrakesh 7:5, 6:2.
Former top ten player Berrettini, who has slipped to 135th in the world rankings, claimed his first tournament victory in 658 days in Morocco. It was his fourth on clay, the last one to date was in 2021. On the ATP tour, Berrettini had never made it past the first round since the US Open last year - also due to injury.
Berrettini is now heading straight to Monte Carlo, where he will play against Miomir Kecmanovic (ATP 50) in round one thanks to a wildcard. Jannik Sinner, who has long since overtaken Berrettini's position as Italy's tennis hero, will probably only get into action in the principality on Wednesday.
