Djokovic struggles, but doesn't let anything go wrong

South Tyrol's tennis fans are looking excitedly to Paris these days - not only to Jannik Sinner, but also to Novak Djokovic. There is a special reason for this.

Jannik Sinner can achieve something historic at the French Open and become the first tennis player from Italy to become number 1 in the world. If Novak Djokovic, the reigning world ranking leader, does not make it to the final, then Bui from Sesto will ascend to the great tennis throne.

At the start, Djokovic did his homework. The 37-year-old Serb beat Frenchman Pierre-Hugues Herbert 6:4, 7:6 (7:3), 6:4 on the Court Philippe Chatrier on Tuesday evening. Djokovic will now play in the second round against Spanish clay court specialist Roberto Carballes Baena.

Djokovic struggles with himself

Despite the clear result, Djokovic was not always happy with his game. The 24-time Grand Slam tournament winner was often seen arguing with himself, his box or even the fans. After two and a half hours, the defending champion converted his first match point with a double fault from Herbert.

Djokovic has had a disappointing season so far and has not yet managed to win a tournament in 2024. He said before his opening match that he had “small expectations and big hopes” when he started in Paris this year.

Jannik Sinner will face veteran Richard Gasquet in his second round match on Wednesday. The match is scheduled for 20.15:XNUMX p.m.
