Wimbledon: Easy canter for Jannik Sinner

It was a relaxed canter that Jannik Sinner put on on Monday evening at the most prestigious tennis tournament in the world. The world number 8 swept an overwhelmed Juan Manuel Cerundolo (ATP 111) from the court in three sets 6:2, 6:2 and 6:2. In the second round, Sinner will once again face an Argentinian - Diego Schwartzman (ATP 98), who somewhat surprisingly clearly defeated the Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic (ATP 41).

The game between Sinner and Cerundolo only started shortly before 21 p.m. (20 p.m. local time). Previously, Novak Djokovic was in action on Center Court. Because the roof was closed too late and the grass got quite damp, his game against Pedro Cachin was interrupted for more than an hour due to the rain. But Sinner didn't mind the long wait: the South Tyrolean made it clear from the start. Right at the start, Sinner Cerundolo took serve twice and took a 4-0 lead. The first set was a clear affair - also because Sinner showed a strong serve rate.

Cerundolo, on the other hand, seemed nervous and lacking self-confidence. The 21-year-old played on a center court in the London district for the first time. In addition, the younger brother of Francisco Cerundolo (ATP 19) met a top ten player for the first time. The young man from Buenos Aires had no chance in the second round either. His backhand shots came too centrally and his serve rate was too weak. After just 55 minutes, Sinner was already leading with 2-0 sets.

In the final round there was a slight rebellion from Cerundolo, who had his first two break chances right at the start. But Sinner skillfully fended this off. Sinner then took the game back into his hands and took Cerundolo's serve again twice. After just 1:30 hours, the 21-year-old from Sexten scored his first match point.
