A well-known tennis name celebrates in Bolzano

The name Berrettini is well known in the tennis circus: 28-year-old Matteo Berrettini was already number 6 in the world. In Bolzano, his younger brother attracted attention.

Jacopo Berrettini is ranked 427th in the world rankings. On Saturday, the 25-year-old Roman reached the final of the 12th Sparkasse Alperia Trophy of the TC Bozen, an ITF tournament with prize money of 25.000 dollars.


In the Italian final, Berrettini faced fellow countryman Gianmarco Ferrari (ATP 570). The match in front of a packed audience at the tennis facility in Gries was ultimately a clear affair, Berrettini lived up to his role as favorite and retained the upper hand with 1:22 (2:0, 6:1) after 6:3 hours.

Two breaks in the first set, 2:3 and 1:5, were crucial to the clear victory. In the second set, Berrettini broke his opponent's serve at 1:2, but then had to accept a rebreak. At 2:3, the spectators in Gries saw a hard-fought game. Ferrari was able to fend off 3 break points, but was powerless on the sixth. Berrettini then increased the score to 5:5 and then converted the first match point on Ferrari's serve.
